Eagles Named District Champs

The Watonga Eagles started their journeys to the Big House on Saturday Feb 19th. Both teams came away with a win against the Tonkawa Buccaneers, making them District Champions on their home court. The Lady Eagles ended with a score of 55-29 and the Eagles 75-50.

Athlete Spotlight: Queen Of the Mat

Braeleigh LaShawn Johnson is a senior at Watonga High School. Most people refer to her as Shawn. She’s a member of the wrestling team, and she also ran cross country and will be running track and field this spring. She enjoys drawing, cooking, and being active in her free time. She is also in the Heritage Club and she cheered during football season. She describes herself as “a lot” and she’s very unique. “You ain’t gonna find another me,” she said.

Watonga Eagles Get Senior Night Wins

The Watonga Eagles faced the Fairview Yellow Jackets for Senior Night games on Feb. 11. Both teams came out victorious, the Lady Eagles with a win of 48-25, and the Eagles with 62-53. It was a bittersweet victory as the seniors played their last regular season game at home. The Lady Eagles have two seniors, Landri Hussey, and Azha’Rae Richard. The Eagles have Deondre Dunn, Devon Wilson, Osten Reyes, Chase Dryden, and AJ Mata, five seniors in total.

Geary Basketball Homecoming, Senior Night

Geary basketball honored its seniors Tuesday night before crowning a Homecoming King and Queen. The seniors are, from left: Allyssa Pineda, Amaya Evans, Joe Littlebird, Keaton Akridge, Jaydin Leger, Raul Espinoza and Desean Richey. Pineda and Littlebird (above) were crowned Homecoming Queen and King. The Bison return on Thursday, Feb. 10 for a District matchup at Mountain View. Play starts at 6:30 p.m.

Congrats Wrestling Seniors

The Watonga Wrestling program honored its seniors on Tuesday, Feb. 8, with a ceremony before the Eagles’ matchup with Kingfisher. Athlete Spotlight: Football Star Jackson Enters Final Months of High School

Joe Jackson, a regular feature in the Watonga Republican during football season, had a breakout year in his fall senior season, where he played quarterback for the Eagles. Joe is a lighthearted, funny guy and is looking forward to his future goals outside of hig school. Jackson enjoys fishing and hunting, and he is currently involved in wrestling. He also runs track and is considering playing golf this season too. Jackson was a state qualifier in wrestling and track last year, and he loves supporting the community and his fellow student body.
