Eagle Teams Finish Runners Up at 3 Rivers Tournament

ENID — The Watonga Lady Eagles (8-3) were hoping for a revenge game as they went up against the Okarche Lady Warriors (16-1) in the championship game at the Three Rivers Conference Tournament on Jan. 8. The Lady Warriors really put the pressure on and pulled out victorious in this close game, ending the score 63-49.

Being a daughter of a basketball coach, Landri Hussey has always grown up around the sport. Since childhood, she’s developed a love for basketball, and spends the majority of her time around it. Hussey is 17, and a senior at Watonga High School. She enjoys hanging out with her friends and spending time with her family, but her favorite hobby is basketball.

Watonga Eagles Soar Into New Year With Wins Against Geary

WATONGA – The night began with the Lady Eagles winning the tipoff and scoring the first points of the ballgame against the Geary Bison. Coach Lauren Campo had three “keys” to her victory – pushing the ball, playing smart defense, and having a “new season” this year and playing championship level basketball. These three things were executed well by the Lady Eagles, leading to a 79-18 home court win to start off 2022.

Watonga Grad Inducted Into Coaches HOF

Watonga native and 1982 graduate, Cliff Ice, son of Bill and Prissy Ice, was inducted into the Missouri Football Coaches Hall of Fame on Friday, Dec. 10. Coach Ice graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1987. He coached one year at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M Junior College before moving to the St. Louis area. He coached for 11 years at Hazelwood Central High School serving as Offensive Coordinator for the 1996 Class 5 State Championship team. Cliff became head coach at Webster Groves High School in 1999. In 2001 he served as offensive coordinator of the professional indoor arena football team River City Renegades.

Athlete Spotlight: Whiteshield is Eagles’ Leading Rebounder

Laron Whiteshield is a junior at Watonga High School, and is described as being a polite and kind-hearted person with a passion for basketball. In fact, he considers it to be his only hobby. He also participates in football and baseball, but has been doing basketball since he was young, and he has aspirations of playing for Baylor University in college.

Champs! Lady Eagles Take State

The Watonga Lady Eagles won the 2021 2A state championship for track and field on Saturday, May 8. Led by seniors Jocelyn Turney and Riley Coleman, the Lady Eagles finished 29.5 points ahead of second-place Stroud. They also won the academic state title.
