Three Calumet students participated in the SW District American Farmers and Ranchers speech contest in Cache. Merritt Major was named Champion Novice AFR/OFU Division, while Rance Nitzel was the runner-up in the intermediate agribusiness division.

The girls’ cross country team (Top)was awarded an OSSAA Academic Achievement Award. To qualify, the team had to maintain a cumulative 3.25 GPA and rank in the top third of their classification.

At top: On Saturday, in spite of cold, wet weather, Geary freshman Rylan Peralta competed at the state Class 2A Cross Country meet in Edmond. He capped off his incredible season by placing 39 in a field of 156.

Rylan Peralta qualified Saturday for the state cross country meet. The high school girls’ team just missed qualifying, placing ninth, with the cutoff at seventh place. Peralta finished in eighth place, qualifying as an individual. He will compete around 2:30 p.m.

Watonga Cross Country team member Brayden Cowan was named Saturday as the regional champion and the boy’s team placed sixth. They will be headed to the state championships next week. Reese Coleman placed third and Kenzi Cowan placed 25th.

The Geary cross country team gathered Wednesday evening for food and fellowship to celebrate a successful cross country season. Grandma Bates and family provided Indian tacos and Amy Estep provided a fruit salad dessert for the runners.
