Local golfers competed Saturday in a tournament hosted by the Watonga Masonic Lodge. Here, two participants tee off at the 10th hole. The weather started cloudy and rained off and on Saturday before clearing up for the tournament.

Cupp Scholarship

Watonga High School senior Tucker Estep has been named as the recipient of the Doris Lewis Cupp Family Memorial Scholarship for 2021. Estep will receive a $3,000 scholarship award to support his studies at Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he plans to study computer science.

Fightingest Eagles

The coveted Fightingest Eagle award is given each year to the top senior athletes in every Watonga sport. This year’s winners posed Friday in their graduation regalia. Walleye Rodeo

The 54th annual Canton Lake Walleye Rodeo was this past weekend, drawing hundreds to the Blaine County town for a weekend of rodeo, carnival rides, food and, of course, fishing. The oldest fishing tournament in Oklahoma, the rodeo is dedicated to a fish that’s hard to find in most Oklahoma waters but thrives in Canton Lake.

Local Masonic Lodge Hosting Golf Tourney

The Watonga Masonic Lodge is hosting its Spring Golf Tournament this Saturday, May 22 at the Roman Nose State Park Golf Course. The four-man scramble event will tee off at 9 a.m.

Geary Celebrates Its Heritage on Jesse Chisholm Day

Geary residents took advantage of the beautiful weather Saturday for a day of rodeo, yard sales, and special events throughout the town. The annual Jesse Chisholm Day commemorates the famous scout and pioneer, the namesake of the Chisholm Trail, whose grave is just a few miles from Geary.

State Bound! Lady Eagles Win Regional Meet

Watonga made a strong showing Saturday at the Regional track meet in Okemah, capturing a dominant first-place finish on the girls side and fourth for the boys. With the victory, the Lady Eagles move on to the State track meet in Ardmore on Saturday with a chance for another 2A state championship.

Baseball Roundup

The Watonga baseball team knew it was in for a tough day against Calera, the top team in District 2A-4 this season with an undefeated district record. The Bi-District Tournament was delayed one day by wet field conditions, but the Eagles finally met the Bulldogs on the field on Friday, April 30, and were swept in the best-of-three series by scores of 9-1 and 10-0 The losses dropped Watonga to 4-25 on the season, according to the OSSAA.
