Watonga FFA Banquet

As the school year comes to a close Watonga FFA held its local banquet on May 10th. We celebrated all the accomplishments over the year from the different teams: Opening Ceremonies, Land judging, Speech and Ag Mechanics then announced the new officer team for next year. 2022-2023 Watonga FFA officers are: President-Aidyn Garcia; Vice President-Dayson Cash; Secretary- Josey Rinehart; Treasurer-Keeley Hicks; Reporter-Kelsi Scheihing; Sentinel-Andrea Craig; Parliamentarian-Jacob Unruh; Historian-Reese Coleman; and Chaplain- Jaidon Turney. Over 120 people came to this year’s banquet to celebrate all the ag students. We are looking forward to another successful year. (Provided by Kelsi Scheihing)

Watonga and Geary high schools both held graduation ceremonies this past Saturday morning, May 14. Hundreds turned out at the Watonga gym and the Stegall Long Fieldhouse to celebrate the Class of 2022. Forty-three Eagles graduated this year, while 18 Geary students earned their diplomas.

Man Leads Deputies on Chase with Child in Vehicle

WATONGA – No one was seriously injured Monday after an Ellis County man led deputies on a chase through Blaine County and flipped his vehicle in Geary with a woman and child on board. Jason Looney was booked into the Blaine County Jail on suspicion of reckless driving, driving under the influence, kidnapping, and other counts.

Kays Protective Order Lifted

WATONGA – A judge last week declined to make permanent a protective order that had been in effect against former Watonga police chief Shawn Kays for nearly a year. District Judge Paul Woodward said granting the order would have required a “pattern” of harassment by Kays against his ex-girlfriend, and that his alleged actions – distributing lewd photos of the woman last June – didn’t meet that standard.

Watonga Masons Donate to Senior Citizens Center

The Watonga Masonic Lodge presented a check to the Watonga Senior Citizen's Center for $11,985. The Masons hold a fundraiser for the Center annually. All men 18 years of age and older are welcome to become Masons.

New “Boyd’s Books” Section at the WPS Library

In recognition of 40 years of service, congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Boyd. “Boyd’s Books” is a new section in the library.
