There has been a great deal of news coverage regarding Oklahoma’s refusal to accept federal funds to support children who qualify for free and reduced school lunches during the summer months. The fact is this failure will leave many Oklahoma children hungry.

Veterans Waste, the garbage collection contractor for the City of Watonga, is still working on its collection routes since changing to twice a week pickup in town. Previously, there were pickups at least four days per week, but with new equipment, the company was able to accomplish the routes in two days instead.

Winter can be a true test of the strength of a landscape design. With most of the landscape plants resting during the winter months, things of interest may be scarce. A key element in landscape design to sustain it year-round is the hardscape – those nonliving materials often used to establish the framework and backbone of the garden. In 1964, Tom and Judy Love spent $5,000 on an abandoned service station in Watonga. They named their company Musket Corporation. Over the next eight years, Musket opened 40 additional gas stations. This week, the company celebrates 60 years of operations, marking a legacy of innovation, growth and community impact since its first store opened in Watonga.

OKLAHOMA CITY Attorney General Gentner Drummond will testify today (Wednesday) to the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee as part of that panel’s impeachment proceedings against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
