As of January 26, there were 376,424 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus in the state, up by 1,571 in the last 24 hours according to the Oklahoma State Department of Health. There were 30 deaths reported in the last day. This brings the death toll to 3,323.

Planning for the Cheese Festival Off to a ‘Grate’ Start

After last year’s cancellation, planning for the 44th Watonga Cheese Festival has officially begun. Discussions about specific areas of the festival, theme ideas, and new and recurring entertainment were all discussed in a meeting last week; however, Watonga Chamber of Commerce Director Dayla Luetkemeyer said it’s too early to name specifics.

One Man Dies in Collision

A 29-year-old Missouri man died in a three-vehicle wreck Monday near Watonga. A 2013 Peterbilt Semi, driven by Sean Bush, 29, or Neosho, Missouri, and a 2017 Peterbilt Semi, driven by Gerald Ostrowiecki, 58, of Cheyenne, Wyoming, were driving south on US 270 about 2:30 p.m.

New Store Set to Open Soon on Main Highway

The finished Family Dollar sign put up by General Lighting & Sign Services Inc. With Family Dollar set to open in two to three weeks, City Manager Larry Mitchell said Watonga is very fortunate to have a new business coming to town. “It’s going to provide some more options for the community, and it will be a nice addition to the highway when coming into town,” Mitchell said. “It's one of many [businesses] that we hope will come to our community in the next year or two.” Mitchell believes Family Dollar is getting ready to stock shelves among other things and could be open within two to three weeks or possibly a month.
