The Second Session of the 58th Legislature has officially convened, and when I say we’ve hit the ground running, I mean it. We’ve made adjustments to our workflow this session, and we’ve already jumped right into committee work.

4-H and FFA Livestock Show

4-H and FFA members from Blaine County will be exhibiting their livestock show project on February 19th and 20th at the Blaine County Fairgrounds. There are a total of 86 4-H and FFA Exhibitors showing their swine, goats, sheep and cattle. The show will kick off on Saturday, Feb. 19th at 10:30 a.m.

A Lamp to My Feet

To begin our study of Haggai, we must start with a short history lesson. Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 BC. In 538 BC, Cyrus the king of Persia allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. About 50,000 Jews returned to do so.

The Watonga City Council met Tuesday night at the new City Hall, but only had four members this month instead of five. Lindsey Doyel, the Ward Two councilmember, has resigned her post, Mayor Bill Seitter said. Seitter remains on the council along with Tina Willis, Travis Bradt and Allen Cowan.

GEARY – A new business on Broadway in Geary is among the stores helping breathe new life into the city’s historic downtown. The Shear Bliss Hair Salon opened on Feb. 1 and has already drawn a brisk walk-in business and customers from throughout the area.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Former Watonga police chief Shawn Kays was charged earlier this month with illegally receiving a firearm while under indictment. A federal grand jury returned the indictment on Feb. 1 and it was unsealed last Monday, Feb. 7, after Kays surrendered to law enforcement.

Geary PD To Offer ‘Amnesty’ for Unpaid Warrants

GEARY – The City of Geary and Geary Police Department will run a twomonth “amnesty” program this spring where locals can potentially save big on accumulated fines. The program will run from March 1 through April 30, Police Chief Cecil Harrall told the Geary City Council last Thursday.

Northwest District 4-H Livestock Judging Contest

BLAINE COUNTY — Watonga 4-H was well represented at the Northwest District Livestock Judging Contest this past week. They participated with two, three person teams. This was their first contest to participate in and they did a great job of representing Watonga and Blaine County 4-H.
