Geary Native Killed in OKC Shooting

GEARY – A woman from Geary was shot and killed last week in Oklahoma City. Kayla Yates, who was days away from her 31st birthday, died on Feb. 14 in a car parked off Northwest 10th Street near Portland Avenue. Raymond Paddyaker, 40, was also found deceased in the car.

WATONGA – The Blaine County commissioners voted Tuesday to lift the countywide burn ban that had been in place since late December to avoid wildfires during the region’s ongoing drought.

WATONGA – The Watonga Public Schools Board of Education gathered for its regular meeting on Monday, Feb. 14, in a celebratory mood one week after Watonga voters approved a near-$20 million bond that will create new facilities for the district.

Stray Calf Causes Wreck Near Hitchcock

HITCHCOCK – Three Geary residents were involved in a rear-end crash Thursday morning near Hitchcock when stray calf on the road distracted the drivers. The wreck occurred around 7 a.m. on OK-8 northeast of Hitchcock, according to information released by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

Oklahoma Among Seven States With Highest Rural HIV Burden

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma was recently identified as one of seven states in the U.S. with the highest rural burden of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is now offering free, at-home HIV rapid self-tests as part of an effort to help decrease the spread.
