Watonga basketball has officially taken flight for the 2022-2023 season. On Tuesday, Nov. 29 the Eagle teams played Hinton. The girls came out on top with a win and the boys ended the night with a loss. Friday, Dec. 2 they faced the Thomas Terriers.

Finney Looks Ahead to Roundball Season

Ahead of a season opener against Burns Flat/Dill City, Geary Bison boys basketball coach spoke to the Watonga Republican about the season, what he is looking for and what his expectations are. Christian Finney said he knew Burns Flat was a tough team. That did not dampen his spirits.

Even though the Eagles did not advance to the playoffs, football in Watonga isn’t over. Eagle Field is the site of the Class C 8-man semi-final game between Waynoka and Mountain View-Gotebo. Kick off is at 7 p.m. Friday.

Playoff Hopes Dashed Around the Region

In a series of lop-sided losses, area high schools were largely eliminated in the first round of football playoff games. Canton lost to Velma-Alma 0-50, while Geary lost to Timberlake 662.
