With lots of uncertainty regarding the future of the sports world at all levels due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to once again dig into the Watonga Republican archives and take a look back at the previous decade in Watonga High School Eagles’ varsity sports.

Watonga Powerlifters Honored with Plaques Despite School Closures

Outstanding lifters for 2020 are Brandon Wiggins, a senior, Kerby Easter, a junior and Andrea Craig, a freshman. In Powerlifting, the top five lifters get a medal. The places are based on their three lift total. Brandon medaled in all five meets that he went to this year.

The unthinkable, at least for sports fans, already has happened. The games, as we know them, are shut down. We’ll never know if San Diego State was a Final Four contender or if Tiger Woods would have defended his green jacket at the Masters. There was no opening day in baseball.

Comets’ Seniors Made Major Impact On and Off the Field

HINTON - Despite spring sports being canceled in their entirety for Hinton High School and all other public and private schools across the state of Oklahoma due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, the Comets’ senior athletes in the Class of 2020 did plenty to shine.

Eagles’ Henderson Named to 2020 Class 3A West All-Star Wrestling Team

Watonga High School athletics got some great news this week as Eagles’ varsity wrestler Ethan Henderson was named an all-star. The Oklahoma Coaches Association announced on Monday that Henderson had made the 2020 Class 3A West All-Star Wrestling Team in the 220-pound weight class.
