Watonga Lanes to Hold Fundraiser for Wrestlers

WATONGA – The Watonga Lanes bowling alley is hosting a fundraiser on Friday, May 19, to help two Watonga wrestlers attend a national competition. Ernesto Duenez and Stoney Hutson qualified for a national competition in freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling this spring.

Watonga Elementary students visited Eagle Stadium on Monday, May 9, for a track meet. Students competed against their peers and learned tips from varsity Watonga athletes to help them become the next Eagles track stars.

Bison Athletes Celebrated at All-Sports Banquet

GEARY – The Geary Public Schools community gathered at the Stegall Long Fieldhouse last Thursday to honor the athletes, coaches and supporters who powered another season of Bison sports. The 2021-2022 school year saw a completely revamped coaching staff at Geary High, and while many programs struggled, most showed improvement overall.

Eagles Baseball Season Ends at Stroud

After a rainout on Thursday, the Watonga Eagles baseball team traveled to Stroud on Friday, April 29 for District play. The No. 17-ranked Stroud Eagles’ offense exploded for 32 runs over two games and bounced Watonga from the playoffs in the best-of-three series. The final scores were 18-1 and then 14-3. Watonga finished its season with an 11-17 record.

Johnson Signs With Cowley College to Join National Champion Cheer Team

Braeleigh LaShawn Johnson signed a letter of intent to join the cheer team at Cowley College on Friday, April 29th in the Watonga Gymnasium surrounded by her cheer team and coaches. During the football and basketball seasons, Shawn was often one of the key flyers to Watonga Cheer’s halftime routines. She is receiving a full book and tuition scholarship so she can join the nursing program at Cowley College.

Lady Eagles Take 2nd at Cherokee Regionals

CHEROKEE – The Watonga Lady Eagles are going to State after a second-place team finish at the Cherokee track and field Regional this past Saturday, April 30. Led by their always-dangerous distance relay teams, the Lady Eagles racked up 109 team points Saturday while the Cashion girls won the meet with 116 points.
