The Watonga Invitational Cross Country meet was held Aug. 29 and drew a field of participants from across the region. In the boy’s high school 4,000 meter run, Watonga senior Cy Walters placed 13 with a time of 14:50.12.

The Geary Lady Bison softball team continued its winning ways last week when it defeated Waynoka Aug. 24 9-4 and went on to beat the Thomas Lady Terriers 17- 3 on Aug. 25. The Lady Bison took on Hobart on the road, where they lost by 13-3.

Football season is finally here, and I couldn't be more excited (if I had my head squeezed in a vise). What does the football season mean to those of us not consumed by the excitement of 24/7 football coverage? It means a run on the wine section of the big box store, that's what it means to me.

The Geary Bison under first year David Ellis, made a strong showing Friday, Aug. 21 in scrimmages against Waukomis and Covenant high schools. Coach David Ellis said he thought the team played hard, really went out and were competitive. They got better as a team as they played.

The Watonga Eagles went to scrimmages Aug. 21 against the Merritt High School Oilers of Elk City and the Cordell High School Blue Devils in Cordell. Head coach Zac Maynard said he saw a lot of good plays during the outing but added there was a lot for his team to work on as well.

The Lady Bison softball team is off to a fast start going 5-2 in the first seven games, picking up four wins Aug. 15 at the Verden festival. The Lady Bison will face Dover and Crossings Christian this week before hosting the Geary Festival Aug. 22.
