Ferguson Features

Body
One of my granddaughters asked me about doing some genealogy research for a friend of hers and that reminded me that I could do some on Governor Ferguson. I thought of this, years ago but never took the time to do the research. I did a little research this morning and found information on Walter that said he passed away in Washington DC and is buried at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tulsa. It didn’t say what he was doing in Washington DC. This goes along with the statement that he lived back east. I will need to go to the Watonga Library to use their newspapers on disc or ancestry.com to find the obit to see what it says about him being in Washington DC. Other information I found said he was vice president of a bank in Tulsa. He also served in the military during World War I. I watched the movie Cimarron on INSP this week and it had him being in his late teens or early 2’s when T.B. was Territorial Governor. Walter was born March 1886 in Sedan, Kansas. T.B. was Territorial Governor from 1901 to 1906, so Walter would have been 15 when they moved to Guthrie.

Weird Is Good, Isn't It?

Body
I know I'm weird. (I know what you're thinking. Stop it! LOL) Who else bingewatches Christmas movies– especially old ones I grew up watching–while sitting in their recliner surrounded by Halloween decorations? Our kids are convinced I've ruined the grandkids. I've got them all thinking that we must watch Christmas movies as soon as there is a nip in the air. (I'm not above using the air conditioner along with the fireplace if I must, to create the perfect atmosphere.) It's a tradition in the Nana Harris household, after all. I have DVDs of 'Home Alone' one and two, all three 'The Santa Clauses,' 'Funny Farm,' and the classic 'Christmas Vacation,' plus dozens more; enough to keep me busy until Christmas.

Culture and Tradition Come Together

Body
The citizens of Watonga turned out in large numbers Monday to celebrate Trunk or Treat at Huff-Lorang Park. Children – and some adults – wore Halloween costumes, chanted ‘trick or treat’ and collected candy. Others came dressed for All Saints Day or Dia de Muertos, the day of the dead. In some cultures, the day after Halloween is to honor and remember those who have passed away with traditional foods, clothing and face paint.
