It was a busy, busy week here in the Harris household. Monday started mundane enough. The Kiwanis were holding their annual Pancake Days so I was thrilled that it would be a day I wouldn't have to think of something for supper.

The 1893 jail that sits on the Ferguson Home Museum site was the Watonga City jail and was acquired by the Mother’s Self Culture and placed on the property. The jail has a unique design. The walls and floor are built of 2x4 lumber. The 2x4s are stacked face to face and held together with 60D nails.

Hi, everybody! Hasn’t the rain been wonderful? Just a nice gentle rain now and then. Thank goodness the tornadoes last week didn’t do more damage. Oncce again it hit Cole, where our granddaughter lives. This time they were smart and went to Washington, Okla.

Early Monday morning law enforcement staged a massive raid on the Cyco Flower marijuana grow at 500 E. Russworm Ave. That location is the former site of Hollytex Carpet Mills.

City Unveils Budget Proposal

Prior to the Watonga City Council meeting Tuesday, the group presented its budget memo as required by Oklahoma Statute. That proposal is based on tax income to the city at 90 % of last year's collections. This is a not-uncommon municipal budgeting practice.

Geary Council Hits Ground Running

On May 11, the City of Geary held its first meeting with new council members Rita Allen and Sandra Cleveland and mayor Waylan Upchego. Council heard the library’s 2023 budget request -- $21,000 – which is slightly higher than last year.

Theta Chapter DKG Recognizes Local Students

Each year Theta Chapter, a branch of Oklahoma State Organization and DKG Society International, allows local seventh- and eighth-grade students to enter a statewide essay writing contest. Schools that participated this year in our area were Watonga, Lomega and Okarche.

OU Headed to SEC

NORMAN, OKLA. – The University of Oklahoma has announced it has approved the necessary contractual agreements with the Big 12 and SEC, permitting the university to leave the Big 12 and join the SEC beginning July 1, 2024.
