Abby Boeckman Shows Determination for Her Team

Hard-working, determined, and team-player are just some of the traits that Watonga Lady Eagles’ guard Abby Boeckman conveys when you speak with her. Boeckman outlined personal goals for herself that she hopes to achieve, but one thing seems to stand out to her the most: Her team.

Boys Set for Districts

The Watonga boys basketball team hasn’t played a game since Jan. 26, but they’ll have to be ready to take on Crescent in district play starting at 8 p.m. Saturday in Area 1 play. Both teams will advance to regional play on Feb. 25. The No.

Watonga Teams Hit Hard by Cancellations

The boys and girls basketball teams saw only one game combined over the past week as several contests were postponed because of COVID-19 protocols. The girls, still ranked No. 17 in Class 2A, played an overtime thriller against No. 13 Cashion, but came up short in a 62-59 loss.

Lady Eagles Vault into Top 20 in Class 2A

Watonga only played once during the past week, knocking off Oklahoma Bible with a 51-31 win. They had two other games canceled because of COVID-19 reasons (at Blaine County rival Okeene and at Moreland).

Congrats to Joe Jackson on his 2nd place finish and Ernesto Duenez on his 5th place finish at the Hub City Classic in Clinton! Also want to shout out to Shawn Johnson for getting second in a weight class above her! She alone got a 3rd place finish as a team! Great job this weekend!

Boys Beat Okeene, Maintain Top-20 Ranking

The Watonga Boys Basketball team played only one game last week, as well, bacuase of COVID-19 reasons. The boys beat Blaine County rivals Okeene in a close game, 54-50. The boys also had good news, as they retained a top-20 ranking in Class 2A. The Eagles are ranked No. 19.

Boys Fall Just Short in Coyle Title Game

The Watonga boys basketball team capped off a successful 3-1 week with a trip to the Coyle Invitational Tournament title game. The Eagles fell short, losing a close game, 65- 60, to Southwest Convenant.

Geary Basketball Updates

Girls drop game to Watonga, cancel others COVID-19 continues to hit the Geary girls basketball program with gut punches. The girls had two more games canceled in the past week (Friday vs. Gracemont and Monday vs.Aline-Cleo) and managed only one game against Watonga, a 58-21 loss.
